Ningde boasts a long history and abundant humanistic landscape resources. It is widely scattered with relics of human activities, ancient sites, historic buildings, cliff inscriptions, stone stele carvings, ancient tombs and celebrity remains. In addition, there exists a wealth of literary heritage and records of local customs and folk culture. 

Key Ancient Architectures in Baishuiyang

Shuangxi Ancient Town and three landmark buildings in the county (Ruiguang Pagoda, Town God's Temple and Confucian Temple): Shuangxi Town was the former county seat of Pingnan County. The ancient town is dotted with buildings of the Ming and Qing styles, featuring ancient wells, carved ornaments and horsehead walls with classic antique charm. The ancestral halls of the Lu, Xue and Zhang clans each have distinctive features.

(1) Confucian Temple: Built in 1736, it is the only existing timber-structured Confucian Temple in Fujian Province.

(2) Town God's Temple: Constructed in the same period as the Confucian Temple, it covers an area of 1,620 square meters. Renovated completely, it features a unique ancient opera stage.

(3) Ruiguang Pagoda: Located outside the west gate of Shuangxi Town. Erected in 1893, it is an octagonal seven-storey solid pagoda. The pagoda base is 18.4 meters in width and 0.7 meters in height, with the total pagoda height of 14.3 meters.

(4) Beiyan Temple: Situated 1.5 kilometers east of Shuangxi Town. It was first built in the early Yongxi reign of the Song Dynasty (984 AD).
