The Taining UNESCO Global Geopark is located in Taining County, northwest Fujian Province, with a total area of 492.5 square kilometers. It is a comprehensive geological park characterized by the Danxia landform and granite landform in the early stage of erosion, with a good ecological environment as the carrier and a long history and culture as the connotation. It consists of four parks: Shiwang, Dajin Lake, Baxian Cliff, and Jinzhao Mountain, as well as the Taining Ancient City Scenic Area. The park is located in the active zone of the western Pacific continental margin, and has well preserved important geological relics such as strata, structures, rocks, minerals, etc. since the Late Triassic. Especially during the Cretaceous period, there were extensional rifts, bimodal volcanic eruptions, formation and evolution of red bed basins, and acidic magma intrusion, representing a special geological development and evolutionary history of the western Pacific continental margin active zone since the Cretaceous period.
