Backing onto Cuiping Mountain and facing the mother river to the south, Pingnan No.2 Middle School was founded in April 1928 under the original name of "Pingnan Private Wuchen Junior Middle School", pioneering secondary education in Pingnan. In September 1956, it launched its senior high department and was renamed Pingnan High School. Since 1959, it has borne the name Pingnan No.2 High School, which remains in use to this day.

Over the past 90-odd years since its establishment, the school has nurtured a large number of outstanding talents, with notable alumni including Xue Yiyuan, former consultant to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Central People's Government, as well as former diplomats Xue Mouhong and Wei Dong.

Located in the northern part of Shuangxi Village, Shuangxi Town, Pingnan County, the school covers a total area of 43,925 square meters. All basic hardware facilities are commensurate with the school’s scale and meet the technical equipment standards stipulated by the provincial authorities. It has evolved into a well-rounded rural high school boasting a favorable geographical location, a healthy school spirit, advanced facilities and high-quality education.
